Allegory of The Cave Sonnet

Shadows seem clear to those who've not seen more
Shackles are comfy when they're all you know
Deep down in ignorance. Where is the door?
You'll never find out lest you're pushed to go

A familiar shape returns underground
Like a n00b teacher coming into town
Resistance and pain are what's to be found
Give them a new light. Don't let them back down.

But ultimately, this must be their choice
No matter how much you've learned from the sun
Walking out of the cave, earning a voice
That job isn't yours. It's theirs to be done.

Create a trail to the world outside
Make their raw ankles an unshackled guide.

  1. Matt. Matt. Matt. There you go making everyone else's sonnet look bad! Haha just playin' around. This sonnet is pretty awesome, I particularly love the last line "Make their raw ankles an unshackled guide." What can I say? You're a genius Matt!

  2. This Sonnet has a nice Rhythm to it. Many students didn't write in iambic pentameter. Good job for doing so.

The second stanza is my favorite. Mostly because all the rhyming words rhyme together like slant rhymes. That gives it more flow to me.

A lot of students have some really nice final couplets. You included.
